As someone who studied another language and culture and turned that experience into the foundations of a career, I can speak personally to how important this is. I am so lucky my parents had the resources and understanding of how critical learning from other cultures is to encourage me down the path I took. Not only did it it provide me with a career, it also provided me perspective on so many things, not the least of which is the humanity of those different from me. There's a key consideration here, though. The entire concept of educational tourism as it stands is grounded in privilege. The vast majority of us don't have the resources to engage in this activity. The other issue is that curiosity about other cultures is not inherent in humanity. I'm always astonished by this when I speak to people who don't have multicultural experience. Many adults just aren't interested in this, so many of their children are not. So it goes on. I'm sure everyone is well aware of all of these challenges, but I think at the core of how we address these things must be convincing people that it matters. This is why I doubly appreciate your efforts here. Thank you.
