Leadership Update

Discussion Topics & Decisions

  • Saturday Protests: The group discussed ongoing protests from 11 AM to 1 PM and noted positive feedback. The June 14 protest will take place at the overpass on SE 7th Ave, over Highway 512. The group voted to purchase two banners—"No Kings" and "Real Patriots Fight Oppression"—sized 9’x3’ for $250 total, funded through Indivisible resources. The fund, sourced from the national Indivisible organization, currently holds approximately $2,000. Donations can be made via the group's website.

  • Resistance Lab 1.0: A member shared their experience attending Pramila Jayapal’s Resistance Lab 1.0 on June 1, stating it exceeded expectations. Attendees were encouraged to participate in upcoming sessions, which will resume in July with two-session formats.

  • Group Identity & Buttons: The idea of producing buttons to represent the group was discussed. The goal is to have them available by June 24 for the United Way project.

  • Endorsement Process: Erik introduced the topic of endorsements for political candidates. The group agreed that each candidate should provide a statement and answer five predetermined questions. These answers will be made available throughout the election process and used in future endorsements. The next step is for members to break into smaller groups and finalize the five key questions.

  • Venue Planning: Given the high demand for library rooms during the school year, the group explored backup venue options. Two church venues are currently under consideration, with a final decision needed by fall.

  • CPR & First Aid Training: Members discussed organizing a certified CPR and first aid training as a community benefit. The local fire department offers a course with a maximum of 16 participants at a cost of $650 per class. The 25th Legislative District group has expressed interest in co-sponsoring the training.

Additional Announcements

  • The floor was opened for questions, and a newsletter was emailed to members.

  • Paul provided an update on the upcoming City Council meeting on Tuesday, June 10. He shared notes available on Slack, emphasizing the importance of keeping comments constructive, even when addressing disagreements with council decisions.
