Summary
Setting Up Committees for Upcoming Meeting
The group discusses setting up committees for their upcoming meeting. They decide to create breakout rooms for mutual aid and communications. Erik provides an update on a failed school bond measure, expressing concern about the impact on local education and potential pushback from conservative groups. He mentions that some schools may face closures or condemnation due to lack of funding. The group also reviews previous committee topics, including immigration, homelessness, education, women's health, and senior support. They consider breaking into state, county, or city-level discussions.
Organizing Breakout Rooms and City Issues
The meeting involved discussions about various topics, including the organization of breakout rooms for different committees, the concerns about city government and the violation of sunshine laws, and the need for action on these issues. The participants also discussed the importance of getting the message out and increasing the number of active members. The conversation ended with a discussion about the need to figure out what's currently happening in the city and how to be more active towards that.
Countering Misinformation and Engaging Opponents
The team discussed strategies for countering misinformation and engaging with individuals who hold opposing views. They acknowledged the challenges of reasoning with those deeply entrenched in their beliefs, suggesting that a more confrontational approach might be necessary. The conversation also touched on the impact of political rhetoric on public perception and the potential for moderate individuals to be swayed. The team also shared personal experiences of encountering and responding to supporters of opposing political views.
Local Elections Candidate Analysis
The group discusses potential candidates for local elections, focusing on District 3. Loli provides insights about a candidate named Crosby, highlighting his strong support from car enthusiasts and local merchants due to his involvement in a cruise event in Puyallup. She notes that Crosby's father was a lobbyist for a lumber company, suggesting he will likely align with Republican interests. Paul mentions he is working with candidates for Districts 1 and 2, and Erik advises him to contact Joe Colombo for helpful information.
Community Aid and Support Ideas
Bev and Penni discussed three potential ideas for providing aid and support to their community. They plan to research existing social services and churches that are already providing services. They also considered gathering food and clothing as a group and offering this to the community. Additionally, they discussed volunteering opportunities and the possibility of participating in a gleaning program. For their next meeting, they will compile this information and contact schools and social service agencies for a list of available services. They also discussed promoting a food drive event. In the communications group, Leo and Jim discussed the need for a consistent message to be sent out to their people, regardless of their party affiliation. They are brainstorming ways to achieve this.
Slack Introduction and Communication Forum
Erik introduces Slack as a secure communication platform for the group, explaining its benefits over Facebook and the website. He demonstrates how to use Slack's features, including channels and threaded discussions. Erik emphasizes the importance of security and vetting members. Jim requests a specific communication forum on the website, which Erik agrees to set up. The group discusses the sign-up process for Slack and its compatibility with different email accounts. Jim mentions the DNC's new messaging strategy in the "War Room" and suggests reviewing it, noting it may focus more on winning elections than addressing real issues.
Puyallup Protest Sign-Waving Event Discussion
Bev proposes organizing a sign-waving event in Puyallup to protest Trump's policies, suggesting locations like Fullerton Plaza or near Banfield Vets. Erik mentions that other nearby towns hold similar events regularly and encourages the group to participate. The group discusses potential locations, considering factors like visibility, foot traffic, and legal restrictions. They debate the merits of different sites, including downtown, City Hall, and along Meridian Street. Tami suggests starting at the US Bank on Sundays when it's closed. The group agrees to be mindful of local ordinances and to keep the protest peaceful and positive.
Reproductive Rights and Organizational Updates
Erik leads a meeting discussing various topics including reproductive rights, upcoming events, and organizational matters. Penni announces that the Reproductive Rights Committee is seeking stories of reproductive health challenges in Washington State since June 2022 to support statistics. Erik mentions recent developments in Texas regarding abortion laws. The group discusses the need for a leadership meeting and improved communication through Slack. Molly provides an update on the organization's donation page setup, which is pending an orientation. The meeting concludes with plans for future social gatherings and events.

MINUTES FOR
February 19, 2025 6:30 p.m.
It was urged that attendees register on the local Indivisible site and include their e-mail address1.
Social Media Training
On 2/25/25 at 7:00 p.m., there will be a webinar social media training; the website will be put on our web page2.
Presidents’ Day Rally
A report was given on attending the rally in Tacoma on Presidents’ Day; the Chairwoman of the 25th LD was met and is interested in collaborating with us3.
One theme from the rally was that there are people in Puyallup who are not aware of our existence and are looking for a place to join “in the fight”4.
SLACK
Slack is a messaging app used by WIN and the national Indivisible organization; it is text only – no pics or videos; a site will be built out for us5.
School Bond Election
Recent bond election did not pass as it did not garner the required percentage of voters who voted in the last general election.
It will be back on the ballot in April.
Indivisible needs to have all hands on deck to blitz the community on the need for the passage of this bond – it will not raise taxes, it is to extend the current level of school taxes.
Youth Outreach
It was suggested that we host one community event each month to get the youth interested in politics; one idea is to have a board game night for parents and their children – reserve the three meeting rooms at the library; this will connect Indivisible to our community and hopefully get kids interested in their civic obligations6.
Facsism
We need to accept the truth that the only way to get rid of Facsism is to get rid of the Facsists.
It seems there isn’t a concentrated movement or directives from the Democrats on how to save our country.
Important that we maintain our community and contact our local politicians.
